Seven Words That Will Make You a Great Boss

Taken from the Newsletter, Early to Rise

In "How to Become a Great Boss", Jeffrey J. Fox tells the story of a manager whose boss "never told her how to solve a problem." She was allowed to make her own decisions and learn from her mistakes. Whenever she would ask for advice, he'd always answer with the same seven words: "I don't know. What do you think?"

By doing this, he not only gave her the impetus (see "Word to the Wise," below) to come up with her own solutions to problems but also let her know that he believed she had the ability to do it.

As Fox says, "Seven common words -- and the courage, self-assurance, and modesty to use them -- make for uncommon wisdom."

MS PowerPoint is for Dummies

PowerPoint Makes You Dumb

I love this, NASA fingered PowerPoint as part of the cultural problem leading up to the Shuttle disaster.

I could argue this point all day... :)

On journalism @ thanksgiving hoopla

Stuffed on Thanksgiving
In Baghdad, the fourth estate buys the fake.

NYPress - Cage Match - Matt Taibbi - Vol. 16, Iss. 49

It was a media event without precedent–an elaborately staged production in which a small group of journalists was literally kidnapped, flown into a war zone, stuffed headfirst into the ass of a Thanksgiving turkey and then made to flap its arms for the amusement of all humanity when the commander-in-chief blew into a kazoo. A more dramatic example of Stockholm Syndrome has probably never been shown on television.

What do those nutrient labels really mean?

Panel urges FDA alter list of daily nutrients'

It amazes me to realize what kind of thinking is actually behind the labeling on every package of food that we use to compare the nutritional value of products that we eat.

Makes me feel it is all bullshit anyway.

Talking Text

The use of audio in web sites really makes a compelling feature. I think I like it more than video embedded in a page. (although this demo is download files, not active, embedded audio like the new tools out there.) The full demo is now here: http://naturalvoices.com/demos/

The following demo uses a site that will translate text to speech for ya...

Feel free to change what it is they will say:

soldiers conditions less than what you'd expect

this is a story that is starting to appear in main stream news sources now. just disgusting to me. It is bad enough we send these people over to Iraq and Afghanistan to get blown up, but how can we let them live in such conditions when they come back to the US to recuperate and recover?? Are all the hospitals in the country full?

Tell this story to any veterans that still support Bush's policies...

Here are some links relevant to the sad living conditions I pullled from a quick search on www.Google.com:
